INTRODUCTION - APRIL

I’m still under the influence of everything I have seen and heard during Radio Days Europe held in Barcelona from March 14th till 16th at The Center of Contemporary Arts. There are so many things I could tell you about this meeting of radio lovers, but most of all I would like to share with you the enormous energy and enthusiasm felt in the Center located in the heart of Barcelona, near famous La Rambla.

As representatives of RAB Serbia we were there together with over 700 other guests from 45 countries. 48 lectures were held and it was difficult to decide which one of four lectures held at the same time to choose because all of them were excellent, very usable and it was worth hearing and seeing radio stars from all over the world. Same as last year, we had big help from IREX Serbia, so Ivana Jordovic, Svetlana Tomov and I spent three days at the conference, enjoyed interesting lectures and spending time with radio people from all over the world. Pedja Andjelkovic from Radio S and Drago Majher from Hit Music FM were also present, so RAB Serbia had numerous representatives.

It was great to meet again with Clive from Absolute Radio, Stefan from RAB Finland, Susan, president of RAB Germany… I wish to share with you the atmosphere in which no one talked about the crisis, but about one thing only – yes, problems have been and still are the same all over the world, but future of radio is bright, big, promising… and all radio stations in the world are moving forward, towards even better programs, better morning shows, promotions, stronger connection with the Internet and social networks.

I have to admit that the best lecture for me was the one by Christian O’Conell, surely the biggest radio star in Barcelona. Christian has 8 Sony awards and he hosts probably the most famous Breakfast Show on Absolute Radio from UK. We have prepared for you a presentation of his lecture and I’m sure it will be very useful for everyone because morning show is maybe the most important part of the program. Christian’s Breakfast Show is a role model for many. It is certain that the reasons are his huge talent, he is the man with an exceptional sense of humor, entertainer, creative and with many ideas, but this lecture has inspired everyone who had heard it.

It was very interesting to see people like Dave Fox who creates great jingles, especially to see the way he does it. I was glad to see how humble he is during his lecture “Secrets of powerful imaging”. He showed us how he makes jingles for 40 years and they always prove to be the best, but with the sentence: “Here, that’s how I do it, it’s very easy, you see…”

In the last lecture I was present, named PD club, PDs from Denmark, France, Spain and Slovakia talked about the way they do their job and I have seen that daily issues organization are dealt with in the same way on all radio stations, the only difference being that on some radio stations hosts have a little more freedom, while in another they have directors who prepare content and hosts present what has been prepared. PD from Spain openly said: “When it comes to content I allow them to talk about what they think they should. But when it comes to music, I make all decisions.”

I think I could talk to you about Radio Days Europe for days. I’m sure we’ll have a chance to talk about all that during our Radio Days on Zlatibor from April 22nd till 24th, and I hope that we’ll be able to go in even bigger number to the next Radio Days Europe which will be in Berlin. It would be a wonderful chance to share experiences with the radio world and to accumulate some of that great energy which only comes from people who really love their job. I’m sure you share my opinion that those are radio people who do not hesitate to share their experiences, give advices and suggestions, working with only one goal – to make the best possible radio program all over the world.
